Viñas del Vero advances in the use of renewable energy with the HarvRESt project

HarvRESt project partner Viñas del Vero, the leading winery in the Somontano DO, is embarking on a new chapter in its history with the implementation of four pioneering technologies in the wine sector. This milestone is part of the HarvRESt project, which aims to integrate the various renewable energy sources (RES) available on farms. Project partner Viñedos del Río Tajo, the estate of Bodega Las Copas located in the province of Toledo, is also collaborating.

The solutions, which were presented at a technical conference earlier this month, will allow the winery to advance in innovation, machinery decarbonization, and sustainability. These include the incorporation of an electric tractor and an autonomous vineyard robot, the application of agrivoltaics technology in the vineyard, and the introduction of an intelligent energy management system in the winery for comprehensive control of consumption, production, energy storage, and grid energy use.

We are very excited to present the results of the HarvRESt project, which combines the best of the agricultural and renewable energy sectors. We have managed to address the challenges facing farming communities and overcome existing barriers from a completely innovative perspective,” says José Ferrer, winemaker and manager of Viñas del Vero.

This project gives us the opportunity to leverage technology to optimize processes in the vineyard and winery, promoting a more sustainable and resilient future in the wine sector,” says Miguel Tejerina, technical manager of Viñedos del Río Tajo.

In this way, the Viñas del Vero and Viñedos del Río Tajo wineries are leading the incorporation of renewable energy into the sector, using an approach that not only enables farms to achieve carbon neutrality, but also optimizes production, reduces their impact on biodiversity, and provides energy services to communities, diversifying their income.
